Update, 10:50 p.m. The Berkeley Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls of possible gunshots in the area of Bancroft Way and Bonar Street at about 9 p.m., said Berkeley Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats via email.

Officers at the scene discovered evidence that a shooting had occurred. Officer canvassed the area and spoke with witnesses, said Coats.

There are no reported injuries, but officers discovered some property damage related to the shooting, she said.

A vehicle was seen fleeing from the area going west on Bancroft from Bonar. Officers continue to investigate this matter. Coats said no further updates would likely be provided Thursday night.

Original story, 10:05 p.m. Police are on the scene after a report of a drive-by shooting in the 2200 block of Bonar Street in West Berkeley.

According to unconfirmed scanner recordings reviewed by Berkeleyside, police received multiple calls shortly before 9 p.m. about shots fired in the 2200 block of Bonar Street.

One of the bullets reportedly went through a window, but no one was initially reported to have been injured. (Police later said on the scanner that one person had been injured as a result, but this did not turn out to have been true, according to Coats.)

Police were on the lookout for a 2014 silver or silvery-blue Impala with a single occupant, according to scanner traffic. The Impala was last seen heading west from Bonar on Bancroft Way.

Local resident Timothy Craven wrote on Twitter at 9:06 p.m. that he “spoke with police who were searching for shell casings. Overheard them talking about a car that was seen driving away.”

Police last responded to a drive-by shooting on Bonar in March 2014.

Berkeleyside will update this post if additional details are provided by police.
