
A pedestrian was taken to Highland Hospital after a vehicle struck her in Berkeley at about 7:45 p.m., according to a scanner audio recording reviewed by Berkeleyside.
Authorities received a call that a female, who was unconscious with a possible head and leg injury, had been hit by a vehicle at Ashby Avenue and Deakin Street at 7:44 p.m., as per the recording.
She was on the ground when first responders arrived. One of them reported on the scanner that she was conscious.
Acting Berkeley Police Lt. Joe Okies confirmed the location of the accident, which was called in at 7:43 p.m.
Okies said a female pedestrian had been struck by a car, and was taken by ambulance to a local trauma center for treatment after the crash.
He said he did not have information about her age or the degree of her injuries, as the investigation is ongoing.
The driver of the vehicle was cooperative with police and remained at the scene, Okies said.
Police diverted traffic from the block during their initial response, but had opened the roadway as of about 8:30 p.m.
Callers report loud boom in West Berkeley
Separately, 911 received numerous calls about a single loud report near the 2800 block of Acton Street, according to the scanner recording.
Calls began coming in about the sound at about 8:40 p.m.
A dispatcher said the 911 lines were “lighting up” due to numerous reports about the sound.
Okies confirmed that police checked the area but found no signs of a crime scene.
Many people reported the sound to Berkeleyside on Twitter.
Wrote Paul Rauber: “Kid wanted to know what huge report just now was. Treasure Island shelling W. Berkeley? I said ask @berkeleyside, they’ll know.”
Dan Bostonweeks wrote that he “saw a flash from 55th & San Pablo before the bang.”
Tajalli Love wrote that it sounded like a small explosion from a pipe bomb or something similar, from Alcatraz Avenue and Sacramento Street, adding, “Windows shook.”
Others said they heard the boom at Russell and King, and Woolsey and Shattuck.
