This overview of recent crime in Berkeley is based on reports to the Berkeley Police unless otherwise noted. Please don’t hesitate to share photos, videos or tips, about breaking news or neighborhood safety issues, via email at crime@berkeleyside.com or on Facebook or Twitter; let us know if you prefer to be anonymous. Don’t assume someone else will alert us — we value your eyes and ears, and you may be the only one to get in touch. We very much want to know about issues of neighborhood concern.

From May 7-13, there were reports of six robberies18 burglaries11 assaults or batteries, no weapon-involved calls and one sexual assault, according to CrimeMapping.com. There were also seven stolen vehicles10 disturbances and 26 auto break-ins or thefts from vehicles reported. There were no significant reported incidents from the University of California Police Department (UCPD). These numbers are subject to change. Click the links for the latest numbers. The following items represent a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate; incidents that took place during a range of time are listed by the beginning of that time period.

Thursday, May 7

There were three disturbance calls: at 1:57 a.m. at Grant Street and Allston Way; at 6:20 a.m. at Milvia Street and Bancroft Way; and at 12:37 p.m. in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue.

There were two commercial burglaries, at 3:54 a.m. in the 1100 block of Virginia Street, and at 4 p.m. in the 2400 block of Webster Street.

There was a robbery at 5:30 a.m. at Acton and Delaware streets.

There was a home burglary at 8 a.m. at an unlisted location.

A community member was walking her dog in the 700 block of Spruce Street at 12:30 p.m. when a female deer became aggressive and charged her, ultimately kicking her and knocking her to the ground, said Officer Jennifer Coats, Berkeley Police spokeswoman. The woman reported minor injuries but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

A vehicle was stolen at 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of Virginia.

A woman told the BART Police her $320 Big Shot bicycle was stolen while secured with a U-lock at the bicycle racks at Ashby Station between 6:15 a.m. and about 6 p.m.

Friday, May 8

Two vehicles were stolen, at 2 a.m. in the 2000 block of Parker Street, and at 10 p.m. in the 1000 block of University Avenue.

There was a commercial burglary at 2:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Channing Way.

There were three home burglaries: at 4 a.m. in the 2600 block of Hillegass Avenue; at 4:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Carleton Street; and at 6:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of Acton.

Police responded to a disturbance at 8:23 a.m. in the 1900 block of Stuart Street.

There were two robberies, at 11:45 a.m. at Hillegass Avenue and Parker Street, and at 3:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Acton. In the second incident, police detained three people, but were still looking for a fourth, after the strong-arm robbery, which took place not far from Berkeley High School. Police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Coats identified the trio as Kenneth De Arman, 18, of Oakland, Kameron Caine, 18, of Berkeley and a 17-year-old girl from Oakland. They were arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and being an accessory to a felony. De Arman also was arrested on suspicion of robbery and hit and run. Read more on Berkeleyside.

UCPD released a statement after learning someone had left a recording device in a women’s restroom in a residence hall at UC Berkeley, at 2650 Durant Ave. According to the statement, released May 14, signs had been posted on a public women’s restroom in the Unit 1 Central Building Residence Hall from late April through May 8 directing people to use a staff restroom for women down the hall. On May 8, someone found a recording device in the staff restroom. According to the May 14 statement, UCPD is investigating someone who “is no longer at UC Berkeley,” and was working to identify victims of the privacy invasion. “In addition, efforts are underway for maintenance staff to check all residence hall facilities to ensure there are no additional recording devices in any location,” UCPD wrote. Saturday, May 9

There was a commercial burglary at 2:30 a.m., in the 2700 block of Shattuck Square, and a home burglary at 4 p.m., in the 1400 block of Alcatraz Avenue.

From the BART Police: An officer detained a man on suspicion of fare evasion shortly after 8 a.m. at Ashby BART. Police found the man to have a misdemeanor $15,000 warrant charging vandalism from the San Francisco Police Department. Police arrested the man and took him to Santa Rita Jail for the warrant.

Also from the BART Police: An officer contacted a man for urinating at about 4:30 p.m. at Ashby BART and determined that he was intoxicated. During a search, the officer found the man to have what was believed to be marijuana. The man was arrested and booked into the Glenn Dyer Jail in Oakland on suspicion of public intoxication, and was issued a citation for the marijuana possession.

Sunday, May 10

There were five disturbance calls: at 12:02 a.m. in the 1900 block of Shattuck; at 1:33 a.m. in the 2200 block of Parker Street; at 5:52 p.m. in the 2400 block of Shattuck; at 10:16 p.m. in the 3000 block of Tremont Street; and at 10:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of 66th Street. Police arrested Damon Moran, 43, in connection with the incident on Tremont. He was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and violation of a protective order. He remained in custody as of Thursday morning, when he was scheduled for a pretrial hearing.

There was a robbery at 11:55 a.m. in the 2000 block of Shattuck.

Two vehicles were stolen, at noon in the 2200 block of Los Angeles Avenue, and at 11:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Le Conte Avenue.

There was a felony assault or battery at 4:11 p.m. in the 1700 block of Carleton.

A home was burglarized at 7 p.m. in the 800 block of San Luis Road.

There was a felony sexual assault at 9 p.m. in the 2600 block of Telegraph Avenue. Police arrested Paris Anderson, 28, on suspicion of rape “where a person is prevented from resisting by any intoxicating or anesthetic substance, or any controlled substance, and this condition was known, or reasonably should have been known by the accused,” according to the penal code. He is no longer in custody but is scheduled to enter a plea May 28.

There was a commercial burglary at 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of College Avenue.

The BART Police said a woman reported that a thief “walked off with her bicycle as she was purchasing a ticket” shortly before 10:45 p.m. at the Ashby BART station. The bicycle was described as a one-speed, black in color, estimated to be worth $500.

Monday, May 11

There were two vehicles stolen, at 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Oregon Street, and at 7:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of Warring Street.

There was a commercial burglary at 2:30 a.m. in the 3200 block of Adeline Street.

From the BART Police: An officer responded to a report of a man playing “loud and offensive music” on a Richmond-bound train. The officer contacted the man at Ashby station and found him to have a felony no bail warrant charging parole violation. The man was arrested and booked into the Santa Rita Jail for the warrant.

There was a disturbance at 8:02 a.m. at Acton and Carleton.

There was a felony assault or battery at 9:15 a.m. in the 2000 block of Allston Way.

There was a home burglary at 6:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of McGee Avenue.

Tuesday, May 12

There was a commercial burglary at 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of Milvia Street.

There were two home burglaries, at 11:45 a.m. in the 1300 block of Hopkins Street, and at noon in the 800 block of Contra Costa Avenue.

There was a robbery at 8:14 p.m. in the 1000 block of Ashby Avenue.

Wednesday, May 13

There were two home burglaries, at 7:45 a.m. in the 1900 block of Yosemite Road, and at 1 p.m. in the 500 block of Santa Rosa Avenue.

There was a robbery at 11:05 p.m. in the 2300 block of Dwight Way.
