This overview of recent crime in Berkeley is based on reports to the Berkeley Police unless otherwise noted. Please share photos, videos and tips, about breaking news or neighborhood safety issues, via email at crime@berkeleyside.com or on Facebook or Twitter; let us know if you prefer to be anonymous. Don’t assume someone else will alert us — you may be the only one to get in touch. From July 23-29, there were reports of 14 robberies23 burglaries12 assaults or batteries, one weapon-involved call and two sexual assaults, according to CrimeMapping.com. There were also 11 stolen vehicles16 disturbances and 41 auto break-ins or thefts from vehicles reported. There were no significant incidents reported by the University of California Police Department (UCPD). These numbers are subject to change. Click the links for the latest numbers. The following items represent a sampling of calls, and times may be approximate; incidents that took place during a range of time are listed by the beginning of that time period.

Thursday, July 23

There were two robberies, at 12:28 a.m. in the 1000 block of Carleton Street, and at 1:45 p.m. in the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue.

Two vehicles were stolen, at 5 a.m. in the 2400 block of Shattuck Avenue, and at 7 p.m. in the 800 block of Indian Rock Avenue.

There was a commercial burglary at 5:17 a.m. in the 2400 block of Shattuck.

There was a home burglary at 9:40 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ordway Street.

There were two disturbance calls, at 3:18 p.m. in the 2800 block of Adeline Street, and at 6:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of Shattuck.

Friday, July 24

Four vehicles were stolen: at 11:50 a.m. at Telegraph Avenue and Parker Street; at 6 p.m. in the 1600 block of Alcatraz Avenue; at 6:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Harrison Street; and at 10:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Stuart Street.

Police arrested Oladotun Olagoke, 19, of Berkeley in connection with a felony assault in the 2000 block of Center Street on July 22 at 4:10 p.m. Police arrested Olagoke at 12:40 p.m. He has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, vandalism and vehicle tampering. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail with a bail of $40,000 and is scheduled for a preliminary examination Aug. 10.

A man in his late 60s killed himself in the Tilden Little Farm parking lot after leaving a note about his intentions in his El Cerrito home. Read more on Berkeleyside.

There was a home burglary at 2:35 p.m. in the 1600 block of Buena Avenue.

There was a robbery at 2:52 p.m. in the 200 block of University Avenue. Police arrested Andy Harris, 19, on suspicion of robbery, and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail and was scheduled for a pretrial hearing Thursday, Aug. 6. He is being held without bail due to the shooting charge, according to online records from the Alameda County sheriff’s department.

A robber struck a woman on the head and took her iPhone 6 at the North Berkeley BART station at 4:55 p.m., according to the BART Police. The woman told police she had been near the pay phones by the station entrance when the man assaulted her and robbed her of her phone. The suspect fled from the station in an unknown direction. The woman sustained a minor injury to her head and received medical attention. Authorities said they were unable to locate the phone because it had been turned off. Berkeley police officers detained a group of juveniles after they were reportedly hurling rocks at a vehicle, trying to break its windows and shouting racial epithets. According to scanner traffic, at around 10:20 p.m., police received a report about the group in the 7-11 parking lot at 1501 University. Police detained some members of the group, but they were ultimately released to their parents because no one could identify them definitively, police said. (This item first appeared in a previous blotter for timeliness.)

There was a disturbance at 11:43 p.m. in the 2200 block of Haste Street.

Saturday, July 25

There were three robberies: at 3:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of Gilman Street; at 5:08 p.m. at Gilman and San Pablo Avenue; and at 10:34 p.m. in the 2100 block of Allston Way.

There were four home burglaries: at 5 p.m. in the 2800 block of Derby Street; at 5:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard; at 5:48 p.m. in the 2000 block of Oregon Street; and at 11 p.m. in the 1800 block of Shattuck.

There was a disturbance at 6:36 p.m. in the 800 block of Addison Street.

There was a felony assault or battery at 11:40 p.m. in the 1900 block of Shattuck Avenue. Police arrested Edison Serafino, 25, of Berkeley on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm. He remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail and is being held with a bail of $30,000. He is scheduled for a pretrial hearing Aug. 10.

Sunday, July 26

There was a second-response call at 12:25 a.m. in the 2300 block of Piedmont Avenue.

There were four disturbance calls: at 9 a.m. in the 2000 block of Shattuck; at 11 a.m. in the 1100 block of Glen Avenue; at 11:17 a.m. at Fifth Street and Allston Way; and at 3 p.m. in the 3000 block of Acton Street.

Someone reportedly brandished a weapon at 10:09 a.m. in the 2000 block of University.

There was a commercial burglary at 12:40 p.m. in the 2900 block of College Avenue.

There were two robberies, at 1:43 p.m. in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way, and at 4:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Alcatraz Avenue. Police arrested 20-year-old Mariah Robinson of Berkeley in connection with the incident on Alcatraz on suspicion of robbery. She remains in custody at Santa Rita Jail with a bail of $50,000 and is scheduled for a preliminary examination Aug. 12.

There was a misdemeanor sexual assault at 3:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Piedmont.

There were two home burglaries, at 7:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Sutter Street, and at 9 p.m. in the 1400 block of Edith Street.

Monday, July 27

Two vehicles were stolen, at 12:01 a.m. in the 1000 block of Sterling Avenue, and at 11 p.m. in the 1100 block of Spruce Street.

There were five home burglaries: at 1 a.m. in the 1100 block of Keeler Avenue; at 7:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Los Angeles Avenue; at 10 a.m. in the 1600 block of McGee Avenue; at 10:05 a.m. in the 2700 block of Belrose Avenue; and at 10:10 a.m. in the 900 block of Santa Barbara Road.

There were three disturbance calls: at 8 a.m. in the 1200 block of Talbot Avenue; at 6:05 p.m. in the 2100 block of Kittredge Street; and ta 8:44 p.m. in the 1400 block of Shattuck Avenue.

There was a robbery at 8:28 a.m. at a laundromat in the 2400 block of Sacramento Street. Berkeley police searched for the armed robber, but were unable to find him. See the full story on Berkeleyside. The use of camouflage clothing and an armored vehicle during the search prompted concern from some in the community. The police department responded this week to those concerns.

There was a felony sexual assault at 12:06 p.m. in the 100 block of Bolivar Drive.

There was a commercial burglary at 9 p.m. in the 3000 block of Adeline Street.

Tuesday, July 28

There were three disturbance calls: at 12:01 a.m. in the 1200 block of Henry Street; at 2:29 p.m. in the 1700 block of Berkeley Way; and at 2:46 p.m. in the 3200 block of Adeline Street.

There were four robberies: at 2:45 a.m. in the 2000 block of Center Street; at 3 a.m. at Hillegass Avenue and Dwight Way; at 5:38 p.m. at Shattuck Avenue and Channing Way; and at 6 p.m. at Kittredge Street and Shattuck Avenue.

There were two home burglaries, at 3:20 a.m. in the 2700 block of Webster Street, and at 9 a.m. in the 1200 block of Burnett Street.

There was a commercial burglary at 2:46 p.m. in the 2600 block of Ashby Avenue.

A vehicle was stolen at 4:30 p.m. in the 100 block of University Avenue.

A duo robbed a man in the North Berkeley BART station parking lot shortly before 11 p.m., according to the BART police. The man said two males in all black clothing approached him on foot, pointed a handgun at him and demanded his wallet, cellphone and prescription glasses. They fled westbound after he complied. It was the second robbery at the North Berkeley BART station over a seven-day period; see the July 24 entry to learn about the prior robbery. Wednesday, July 29

There was a robbery at 12:05 a.m. in the 2000 block of Berkeley Way.

There were four home burglaries: at 6 a.m. in the 3000 block of Harper Street; at 7:35 a.m. in the same block; at 9:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Roble Road; and at 5:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Regent Street.

Two vehicles were stolen, at 2 p.m. at Telegraph and Durant avenues, and at 10 p.m. in the 500 block of Spruce Street.

A thief stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked at the North Berkeley BART station, according to the BART Police. The thief took the converter from a 2002 blue Honda Accord while it was parked at the station between 1:30 and 6 p.m. (This item first appeared in last week’s blotter for timeliness.)

The BART Police responded to two auto burglaries. The first was at the Ashby station: a thief broke into a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta between 8:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., smashing the passenger window and speaking a Sony stereo system. The second happened at the North Berkeley station between 7:40 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. Someone smashed the front passenger window of a 2006 Honda Pilot and stole its stereo.
