Update, 3:11 p.m. According to the Oakland Police, San Francisco officers have both men linked to the shooting now in custody. No one else is being sought. Police say roads will re-open “as soon as possible.”
Update, 3:04 p.m. Police say they are looking for an African-American or Hispanic man in his 20s “with wavy hair, wearing a red shirt with the number ’23’ on it.” The San Francisco Police Department has arrested one person, but the search continues for the second man.
Original post, 2:35 p.m. Authorities in North Oakland are looking for suspects linked to a San Francisco shooting, and helicopters hovering over the search area near the Berkeley border have drawn questions from many local residents.
According to a Nixle alert released by the Oakland Police at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers from Oakland and San Francisco are in the 1000 block of 60th Street looking for two people.
Traffic is blocked off from 60th to 61st streets, and from Herzog to Idaho streets.
Police are not allowing vehicles or pedestrians to pass through the area.
According to the Nixle alert, “OPD is assisting SFPD in looking for suspects involved in a shooting that occurred in San Francisco.”
Police are asking residents to stay inside and report suspicious activity by dialing 911.
Numerous local residents asked Berkeleyside about the reason for the helicopters, reporting multiple copters near South and West Berkeley.
According to ABC7, two shooting suspects fled from San Francisco into Emeryville and then Oakland after shooting a tourist in the torso.
The shooting took place shortly after noon in the Russian Hill neighborhood, near the “famous crooked section” of Lombard Street. Read more on ABC7.
