The Portland-based New Seasons Market plans to open a new, 35,000 square foot store at the Emeryville Public Market complex on Shellmound Street.

In a statement released today, City Center Realty Partners and Angelo Gordon & Company, owner of Public Market Emeryville, said the independent, “mission-driven” grocer will be an anchor to the 14.5-acre mixed-use site.

The new store will generate more than 100 new jobs when it opens in the second half of 2017, according to the release, and the new building will include a parking structure.

New Seasons Market was founded in 2000 in Raleigh Hills, OR, by “three families and 50 friends” who decided to open a grocery store that was “friendly, fun, neighborly and supportive of sustainable agriculture.” New Seasons supports local farms, ranches and other small businesses, and sells organic produce, humanely raised meats from animals fed or finished on a non-GMO diet, and sustainably harvested seafood. It gives 10% of its after-tax profits to various organizations through grants and donations, according to its website. New Seasons has 17 stores in Oregon and southwest Washington, one recently opened store in San Jose and five Northern California New Leaf Community Markets.

The announcement comes on the heels of two other new leases signed this summer for the Public Market: local food trucks We Sushi and Mayo & Mustard both said in August they would open their first brick-and-mortar spots there. Shiba Ramen and KoJa Kitchen signed leases in the food hall this spring. Once ongoing renovations are complete later this year, the market will comprise 19 food stalls, along with long-term tenants like Hot Italian, Peet’s Coffee, Urban Outfitters and Guitar Center. An artist’s mural and a living wall are also part of the plans. The market continues to be open throughout the redesign.

Along with the current renovation of the 22,000 square foot Public Market food hall, upcoming development nearby includes over 450 units of housing, 43,000 additional square feet of retail and restaurants, significant street upgrades and a complete renovation and expansion of a nearby park, according to City Center Realty Partners and Angelo Gordon & Company .
