UCPD announced, in a brief statement Friday, that it is investigating a sexual assault and kidnapping Thursday, Nov. 19.

The victim told UCPD she was “abducted from Central Campus and driven to an unknown location where she was sexually assaulted.”

Police found the victim after she was released on the morning of Nov. 20, “and are conducting an investigation.”

Police said no suspect information was provided.

UCPD released the statement at about 1:10 p.m. Friday by email. 

No additional information was released, but authorities ask anyone who may know more about the incident to call the University of California Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau at 510-642-0472 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 510-642-6760 at all other times.

The Berkeley Police Department has responded to 46 sexual assault reports over the past six months. UCPD has responded to 10, according to CrimeMapping.com, which collects crime data information from both agencies.

June 30: UCPD responded at 2:29 p.m. to a report of a sex crime in International House.

July 5: A 19-year-old female student reported to UCPD that she had been the victim of sexual battery in Cleary Hall. According to UCPD, the incident took place Feb. 16.

July 30: A man who had been sleeping in People’s Park woke up to discover signs he had been raped, according to UCPD. Read more on Berkeleyside.

Aug. 4: UCPD responded to a report of a sex crime in Griffiths Hall at 3:05 p.m.

Aug. 27: There was a sex crime at the Strawberry Canyon Pool at 6:15 p.m., according to UCPD, in which a man groped six children. Police later arrested a man but the district attorney’s office did not charge him.

Sept. 1: UCPD said it was investigating a sexual battery. At 12:37 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 2100 block of Shattuck where a 20-year-old woman reported that she had been the victim of a sexual battery in a university library approximately 10 minutes earlier.

Sept. 2: UCPD received a report from an 18-year-old female student related to a man in his 50s who was exposing himself at Unit 1 (Freeborn) from 10:30-11:30 p.m. The man was described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with gray hair, black glasses, a light tan jacket and dark khaki pants.

Sept. 14: UCPD responded at 4:08 p.m. to a report of a sex crime.

Sept. 24: UCPD responded to a sexual assault on campus just before 1 a.m. A 28-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by two men, one of whom she knew from a prior encounter. Police said the men were responsible for two counts of rape, kidnapping, sodomy and attempted oral copulation. Read more in the crime blotter where this item first appeared.

Nov. 8: UCPD responded at 4:35 p.m. to the 1000 block of Sixth Street, in Albany’s University Village, for a report of a sex crime, which is under investigation. No further information was provided.
