Berkeley police handled two significant incidents over the weekend involving gunfire, one that sent a man to the hospital and another that led to the arrest of three 18-year-olds.
Police have been unable to respond to a request for information about the incidents, so Berkeleyside reviewed scanner transmissions to learn, at least preliminarily, about what took place. The information that follows has not been confirmed, but this story will be updated if details are provided by authorities.
Saturday, police responded to a home on Stuart Street, near California Street, after a man called police to report that he had been shot in the leg. Paramedics took the man to Highland Hospital for treatment, but he was not cooperative, according to scanner recordings.

He said he had been shot during a robbery attempt, and did not live at the home where police found him.
After the man was taken to the hospital, officers followed a blood trail to a unit behind the residence. Officers on the scanner said they needed to secure a search warrant due to the discovery of drugs and weapons at the home after forcing entry into the rear unit due to a concern about a possible suspect or additional victim there.
The victim did not initially provide a suspect description, and no arrests in connection with the case were reported over the scanner in proximity to the time of the shooting.
Sunday evening, numerous residents reported the sound of gunfire on Russell Street — about two blocks south of Saturday’s shooting — between Sacramento Street and McGee Avenue.
Said one local resident on Twitter, “sounded like 4 or 6 shots then some screaming somewhere near.”
Witnesses quickly pointed police to a group of young men running in the area, and officers stopped several individuals at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Ashby Avenue, about three blocks east of the sound of gunfire, and took them into custody after recovering a firearm.
Police also set up a perimeter — near McGee, Stuart, Ward, Oregon and Grant streets — during the incident due to witness statements indicating that other people possibly associated with the shooting could have run into the block.
There was no apparent report after the shooting attempt that anyone had been injured.
The arrested individuals were identified on the Alameda County sheriff’s department Inmate Locator website as 18-year-olds Darryon Carrell, Immanuel Ramsey and Aaron Meredith. They are being held at Berkeley Jail and are scheduled for arraignment Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Carrell is being held with a bail of $370,000 on suspicion of several firearm-related offenses: altering a firearm ID, carrying a concealed, loaded firearm and shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle.
Meredith and Ramsey were arrested on suspicion of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle, and bail was set at $250,000.

Update, 6 p.m. Officer Jennifer Coats, Berkeley Police spokeswoman, provide a brief statement about the incidents over the weekend.
Saturday, at about 11:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Stuart Street. The victim, a 32-year-old man, told BPD he had been injured in a possible robbery attempt. Coats said he “was uncooperative with police officers and did not want to provide a statement,” but that police will “continue to investigate this matter.”
Sunday, shortly before 5 p.m., police responded to a possible shooting in the 1600 block of Russell Street. Coats said witnesses reported that several males were seen running from the area. Officers detained three people who matched the descriptions provided by witnesses. Officers also found evidence that a shooting had occurred. They found property damage but no victims were struck. One of the young men arrested was found with a loaded gun. Coats confirmed that the names, ages and arrest violations above are correct. All three young men are from Berkeley.
