Berkeley Police and Berkeley Fire responded to an incident Thursday afternoon at the McDonald’s in downtown Berkeley in which a person jumped the counter and attacked several employees.

There was also a report of an additional victim being attacked at a laundromat nearby.

“The suspect was not armed, but apparently struck or choked at least two individuals — one at McDonalds, one at the laundromat, without warning or provocation,” said Berkeley Police Captain Andrew Greenwood.

Just before 4 p.m. BPD received multiple calls about the attack at the McDonald’s on the corner of Shattuck and University avenues. Employees were reported to be holding the suspect down, according to Greenwood. Greenwood said numerous officers responded to the scene where they took custody of the suspect from the employees.

No victims were hospitalized. The suspect was taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
