The East Bay Municipal Utility District is responding to North Berkeley due to a water main break Thursday.

According to EBMUD spokeswoman Tracie Morales-Noisy, a 16-inch steel main broke Thursday at Euclid and Marin avenues.

She said she was still trying to get information about when the break happened, how many customers had been impacted and when repairs might be complete.

Shortly before 2 p.m., Morales-Noisy told Berkeleyside that the agency is still trying to assess the situation.

“Before we do any repairs, they need to … have the utilities marked before they do any type of digging,” she said.

Berkeleyside received its first report about the water main break around 8:40 a.m. Thursday from a local resident who found he had no water.

Morales-Noisy said EBMUD had to shut off the valve at Euclid and Marin, which resulted in other customers being without water.

Local resident Jude Berman told Berkeleyside she had called EBMUD: “They told me it is a widespread issue in Berkeley right now, with some experiencing low pressure and others having no water at all. They are working to find the cause of the problem.”

She was told EBMUD began getting calls about the problem at 7 or 8 a.m.

Berkeleyside will update this post if additional information is provided.
