FILMS ABOUT COURAGE AND THE OUTDOORS – Yeti is a manufacturer of ice chests, drinkware, T-shirt, caps and other gear. It also produces a roving mini-film festival of movies highlighting courageousness and the outdoors. On Friday, Sept. 16, Yeti will present “Stories from the Wild Film Tour” at Freight & Salvage. Tickets for the evening cost $10 and include beer, BBQ, and a raffle ticket, with all of the money going directly to American Rivers. According to Gear Junkie, the films include Charged, “which shows the incredible survival story of chef and outdoorsman Eduardo Garcia.” Cosmo documents the story of a fishing guide in the remote waters of the Seychelles. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.; films begin at 7:00 p.m.
WALL ART AT BAMPFA – Check out the monumental weaving by East Bay artist Terri Friedman at BAMPFA. This is the second work in the museum’s new Art Wall series of commissioned temporary works. Friedman describes her recent embrace of weaving as a means to extend her exploration of painting. “Weaving color. Yarn as paint. For years I have investigated painting through everyday materials: kinetic sculpture, installation, painted pours. And that is exactly how I approach the loom. Expanding material limits, diving into color, redefining landscapes, interested in invention and innovation yet borrowing from tradition.” $10-$12. BAMPFA, 2155 Center St.
COASTAL CLEANUP DAY Saturday, Sept. 17 is Coastal Cleanup Day, a chance for Berkeleyans to celebrate our bay, creeks, and wetlands. The annual volunteer event is the largest in the state. In 2014, nearly 67,000 participants removed more than 1,190,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from California’s beaches, lakes, and waterways. In Alameda County, volunteers can choose from a wide range of cleanup events throughout September, organized by public agencies and nonprofit groups. There will be volunteers along the Berkeley shoreline, at the Albany Bulb, and in many other spots. EATS BEATS & BREWS The Eats Beats & Brews salsa party returns to downtown Berkeley on Sunday, Sept. 18, noon to 6 p.m., with a packed program of fun events for all ages. Julio Bravo will shake up the warm afternoon with live music and dancing, there’s an outdoor beer garden from Drakes Brewing, food from local restaurants, and fun games for all ages. Ruth M. Caspary will give a free salsa lesson. Center Street’s Restaurant Row will showcase over 15 different international cuisines with special deals just for the event and combos perfect for al fresco eating. Games of Berkeley will be taking over part of the street for a Locally Grown Games Day where everyone can come meet game developers, try out new games and celebrate modern gaming.
A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD – The Bay Area’s Children’s Theater presents this heart-warming and family-friendly production inspired by the book by author-illustrator Arnold Lobel. The musical, with music by Robert Reale and lyrics by Willie Reale was nominated for three Tony Awards when it was first produced in 2003. A Year With Frog and Toad follows the adventures of upbeat Frog and his more reserved pal Toad as they romp through the seasons with their animal friends. Tickets range from $15 to $25. The performances are at the Peets Theater at Berkeley Rep. There will be a performance Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18 at the same times.
