San Francisco has Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Berkeley has the Old Time Music Convention. This year, the event ran from Sept. 21 to Sept. 25 with a whole program of concerts, workshops, panel discussions and open jams, at venues including the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse and the Berkeley Public Library. The convention culminated with a Jamming in the Park get-together in Ohlone Park on Sunday Sept. 25. The day before that saw a String Band Contest held adjacent to the Berkeley Farmers Market in Civic Center Park. Mike Melnyk, the convention’s staff photographer — he’s also on the photography staff for Hardly Strictly — shared these images of that Saturday with Berkeleyside.
