Police arrested two Oakland men, including a parolee, after a carjacking in South Berkeley late Thursday night.
According to the Berkeley Police Department, a 24-year-old Los Angeles woman had parked her car just before midnight in the 2100 block of Prince Street when three men approached her. One of them had what appeared to be a gun.
“They told her to get back into her car,” said Sgt. Andrew Frankel, Berkeley Police spokesman. “The victim dropped her purse, cellphone, car keys, and ran. The suspects picked up her property and fled the area in her vehicle.”
Minutes later, a Berkeley officer on patrol spotted the vehicle in the Southside neighborhood and pursued it.
The chase ended at Halcyon Court and Prince Street when the two men in the vehicle ran. Both were detained and arrested.
Police found a replica firearm inside the vehicle.
Police tracked the third man to the Ashby BART station, and found some of the woman’s property there. The third man is still missing.
The driver of the stolen vehicle is currently on parole, according to police.
Terrence Holyfield, 23, and 18-year-old Charles Anderson were arrested on suspicion of robbery, carjacking and felony evading, Frankel said.
Holyfield was also arrested in connection with violating the terms of his parole.
Holyfield was held with a bail of $380,000 and Anderson with a bail of $405,000.
Both were scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Updated hearing information was not available online of publication time.
