Police in Berkeley received multiple reports of gunfire Friday evening, but no injuries or property damage were ultimately discovered.

Berkeley Police Lt. Andrew Rateaver said there were numerous calls into the dispatch center just after 8 p.m. Friday.

“Our people responded to numerous calls of possible gunfire in the area of California and Oregon streets,” he said.

Officers looked around for any potential problems but found none.

There was, however, an individual arrested for an unrelated court charge that was already in the system, he said.

The last reported shooting in Berkeley that resulted in injuries took place south of the UC Berkeley campus Oct. 15. A 35-year-old man was left in critical condition but was still alive at the time of last report.

That followed several shootings in September, including one that killed a 19-year-old man.
