
When dozens of police cars, sirens blaring, tore into the Elmwood neighborhood Wednesday evening, and the tell-tale whirr of a helicopter overhead could be heard, alarmed Berkeleyside readers began emailing, texting and messaging us to ask us what was going on.
Within 20 minutes we had a reporter on the scene of a dramatic police stand-off near the Ashby-College intersection, which shut down the neighborhood, and trapped patrons in local businesses, for several hours. Three Berkeleyside staffers then spent the next four hours covering the news live.
