Update, May 21, 9 p.m. BPD has confirmed that two minors were detained and two others are still being identified. The two who were detained were not arrested. BPD said it was ultimately determined that only one vehicle was hit. No further information was available.

Original story, May 20, 10:49 p.m. Berkeley police responded to a car crash Saturday night and made several detentions in the Elmwood neighborhood.

A motorist in a sedan crashed north of Russell Street, on Benvenue Avenue, after possibly hitting numerous other vehicles not long after 10 p.m.

At least two to three people were detained by police after running from the crashed car after it struck a parked vehicle on the east side of Russell.

“We’re still trying to sort it out, why these youngsters crashed,” BPD told Berkeleyside.
