Election Day is 21 days away, but voting is already underway in Berkeley. Ballots have hit the mailboxes, and early voting at the Registrar of Voter’s office began last week.
Berkeleyside has redesigned our popular election hub to make it much easier to learn about the races and issues that interest you. See the Election 2018 section for the news you need before you vote. We have more stories in the works, too.
The top of the page has recent articles, along with others we’re highlighting. Below, each race and issue we’ve covered has its own section. That includes Assembly District 15, four Berkeley City Council races, the Berkeley School Board race, Measure O, campaign finance news and more.
Opinion pieces get their own (lengthy) section, and we’ve compiled a list of key election-related resources to help you navigate your ballot.
When you land on Berkeleyside, you can access the Election 2018 section in a couple of different ways. Choose it from the front page news banner (highlighted in pink in the category list across the top on a desktop or laptop, or via the gray “menu” box on mobile). You’ll also find a prominent link in our City section on the homepage until after the Nov. 6 election.
Bookmark the page, share it with your friends: We’re passionate at Berkeleyside about helping you get informed about what’s on your local ballot.
While you’re at it, be sure to sign up for election text alerts from Berkeleyside to get insights from our election team. If you haven’t signed up, you’ve already missed some juicy tidbits — and direct access to Bside staff. Sign up now (it’s free!): Don’t miss another update.
You may also want to check your voter registration status (where you can see elements of your voting history, which is pretty nifty, or creepy — not sure which!). Need to register to vote or update your information? Re-register online through Oct. 22.
This year, for the first time, you can also go into the Registrar of Voters office (1225 Fallon St. in Oakland) to register and cast a ballot all the way up through Election Day. You can’t leave with the ballot, however: You must fill it out in the office.
The clock is ticking and our resources are limited. What information are you still seeking about Berkeley campaigns? Let us know in the comments. And support our reporting by becoming a Berkeleyside member. Coming soon: An overview of measures O and P, and more.
