Berkeley man sentenced to 28 years in prison for violent sex crimes

Following a 2022 spree of violent sex crimes in Albany, Berkeley and Oakland, 45-year-old Tommy Lee Giles Jr. of Berkeley was sentenced to 28 years in prison.

Two fires were reported in Albany Sunday afternoon. A security guard told police a Berkeley woman may have set one of them.

Police say the earliest incident took place March 30 when a man who said he had a knife sexually assaulted a 9-year-old in Albany. This was followed by a sexual assault on Colusa Avenue.
