Hundreds of runners wound their way through the city streets from the marina to UC Berkeley to downtown, where the race ended.
The half marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Milvia and Kittredge streets, followed by the 5K and 10K that start at 8:30 a.m.
Runners who were expecting to take part in the 10K, 5K and 1K races Sunday will need to wait to hear whether the event will be rescheduled for the spring.
The female winner of the Berkeley Half Marathon is from Berkeley while most of the other race winners Sunday were also local.
On Sunday, Anna Bretan of Berkeley took first place in the women’s race of the 2015 Berkeley Half Marathon for the third consecutive year. Bretan, whose time was 1:18:34, has also finished first in the San Francisco Marathon for the past three consecutive years. Berkeley’s first-ever half marathon kicked off at 8 a.m. at Civic Center Park yesterday. Update, Dec. 12, 2013: We’re sorry to report that Kenny Speirs, the man who collapsed during the Berkeley Half Marathon, passed away on Dec. 11.
