Police: After Ashby fire, men found with meth, mailbox keys, ID theft document trove

Authorities say the men had more than 1,700 personal items that did not belong to them, including mail, checks and ID cards, as well as a gun and ammunition.

Mary Shaplin, who was recovering from an illness, jumped into action when the roof of her neighbor’s adjoining house in downtown Berkeley caught fire more than a century ago.
