On Friday, the Safeway Community Markets at 1550 Shattuck Ave. and 1850 Solano Ave. will officially return to the former Andronico’s name, but the stores have already transitioned to the old name.

By the end of the year, existing Safeway Community Markets will be renamed Andronico’s and sell more local, fresh-made and upscale food options.
The supermarket chain that bought two Andronico’s stores and rebranded them as Safeway Community Markets in 2017 has brought back the old family moniker for some of its stores; Berkeley may be next.
A Safeway staffer was stabbed Thursday afternoon, and police and paramedics are on the scene in North Berkeley.
The grocery stores replace the last five locations of Andronico’s in the Bay Area. The company was bought by Safeway in 2016.
An “everything must go” sale is underway at Andronico’s as Safeway prepares to rebrand the grocery stores under its own name.
