The Border Patrol arrested Kevin Alvarado in late July and sent him back to Alameda County to face murder charges.
Police identified Jose Paz-Leja as a convicted felon and “documented West Side Berkeley” gang member who has other gunfire arrests in the neighborhood.
This week, for the first time ever, Berkeley police were given carte blanche to speak openly about gang activity in town, and what can be done to help those who may be drawn to it.
