LifeLong Medical Care will hold a grand opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Monday for its 15th health center, in the Ed Roberts Campus on Adeline Street in South Berkeley.
The new Ashby Health Center, a full-service clinic, will offer care to underserved populations covered by Medi-Cal, Medicare, managed care plans through Covered California, or people without insurance. LifeLong offers a sliding scale based on income.
The clinic will be serviced by physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, mental-health providers, acupuncturists, social workers, and community health workers. There will be prenatal clinics, classes on diabetes management, chronic disease screening and management, HIV/AIDS testing and treatment, acupuncture, and other kinds of group educational and preventive services.
LifeLong Medical Care also has a clinic at 837 Addison St. in Berkeley, but demand for services has gotten so high that space is at a premium, according to Executive Director Dr. Mary Lynch. The Ashby Health Center offers programs and services for disabled adults to assist with independent living, and Lynch said Lifelong is excited about possible partnerships with disability service organizations on the Ed Roberts Campus.
“It has been a special part of our mission for many years to serve the elderly and disabled communities,” Lynch wrote in an email. “We believe that our presence at the Ed Roberts Campus will allow day-to-day opportunities to improve and coordinate care for our patients with disability needs. We also know that we have lots to learn from the disability-focused organizations in the building and hopefully something to offer them as well.”
The open house, to which members of the public are invited, will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at 3075 Adeline St. There will be speeches from Lifelong’s partners as well dignitaries including Mayor Tom Bates.
