One of the most important steps in building a local newsroom is filling it with talented journalists. With that goal in mind, Cityside Journalism Initiative, the nonprofit publisher of Berkeleyside, The Oaklandside and East Bay Nosh, is excited to announce two job openings at Richmondside, our soon-to-be local newsroom dedicated to covering the city of Richmond.

First, we’re looking for an entrepreneurial journalist with newsroom leadership experience to fill the vital role of Editor-in-Chief. This person will be responsible for charting Richmondside’s editorial course, guiding and mentoring its reporters, contributing stories of their own, and being the public face of the newsroom in the community. The Editor-in-Chief will have the unique and exciting opportunity of helping to establish and grow the newsroom from the ground up, fostering a positive and productive newsroom culture, and ensuring that Richmondside’s coverage is equitable and serving the information needs of city residents.

We’re also searching for an enthusiastic and enterprising Reporter who will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief in delivering on Richmondside’s mission to provide residents with unbiased local news, information about the city that they can put to use, and stories that reflect the experiences of communities across the city. Time and again, Richmonders have told us they want more independent reporting and access to information about their local government, and that is what this reporter will be focused on: attending public meetings, explaining and tracking local policies, amplifying community voices and perspectives on important civic issues, and helping people become more engaged with where they live and work.

You can read the full descriptions and find the online applications for both jobs on Cityside’s website.
