Berkeley police and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office are investigating after a dead man was found at the Berkeley Marina Saturday morning.
The man’s cause of death and identity, beyond that he was in his 50s, were not immediately available Monday.
First responders first went to Seawall Drive at 7:16 a.m. Saturday “on a report that there was possibly a dead body that had washed up on the rocks,” Berkeley police Officer Byron White said in an email.
Officers found the man on the waterline near the Berkeley Yacht Club, White said. The sheriff’s office’s Coroner’s Bureau took custody of the body.
It was not yet clear whether the death was suspicious or otherwise “at this early point in the investigation,” White said.
The man’s next of kin had not yet been identified or notified, so his identity was not available, according to the sheriff’s office.
